The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that it generated approximately N1.9 trillion in revenue over the last ten months. This remarkable figure marks a significant increase compared to the previous year's earnings.
The Customs Area Controller of the Apapa Area Command, Babatunde Olomu, revealed the command's revenue profile during a presentation on Monday. According to Olomu, the revenue generated from January to October 2024 reflects a 101 percent rise, surpassing the N931 billion collected during the same period in 2023.
"From January to October 2024, we generated a total of N1.88 trillion, which is significantly higher than the N931.124 billion generated in the corresponding period of 2023, representing a 101% increase over last year's revenue figure," Olomu stated.
He highlighted that the October 2024 collection alone reached N264.5 billion, the highest monthly revenue in the command's history. "We are hopeful of meeting and even surpassing our target of N2.2 trillion as the year winds down," he added.
Olomu also noted the ongoing modernization efforts within the Nigeria Customs Service, emphasizing the shift towards a paperless system. "The NCS management is driving a modern and paperless system, and here in Apapa, we are gearing up to migrate from the old system to a new one," he said.
In addition to its revenue achievements, Comptroller Olomu disclosed that the command recently handed over six containers of falsely declared and unwholesome pharmaceutical products to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for appropriate action.
